Bought a house in a village in South Wales, have a reasonably nice view of tree-covered mountains all around. Still haven't found a better job... maybe next year...

A brief note...

Just a quick post as I have the time. I've come to stay with my cousin in Leeds for a few days. I say Leeds, she actually lives in Otley about 11 miles from Leeds, but as no one has ever heard of it, I find it quicker to tell them Leeds.
Anyway, on Friday, said cousin arrived home and announced that she wanted to see "What was on in Leeds". This is code for "I want to go to the theatre". All I had seen was a poster advertising an obscure theatre company's production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle, so I wasn't holding out much hope. However, I got a fabulous surprise when she came down from her phone/internet consultation to tell Charlie and me that The Sound of Music was on in Bradford. We had crap seats but they had been the only three left in the house and we were going! I'd already seen it in London so I was quite keen. After the first half, I was less keen, Connie Fisher may have won a competition to get herself the role of Maria, but Summer Strallen had been excellent in London and the touring cast seemed to lack a bit of "oomph". However, seemingly someone had put a rocket up their bums during the interval because the second half was really enjoyable and afterwards Charlie begged us to be allowed to go the stage door. So, we did. After a nice chat with Mother Superior and the Baroness, we waited in the rain for the others, Michael Praed and his mate who were playing the Captain and Max Dettweiler, came out and signed the book of the person closest to the door and then legged it without even a smile for the rest of us... We waited on... Eventually Connie arrived, mortified for having kept us in the rain but saying that she didn't know anyone was there. We were last in line and my cousin took a picture of me and Charlie with Ms. Fisher who was very kind and sweet-natured as she told her ?boyfriend? to get out of the way of our picture and seemed to have no problem flinging her arms around both of us and beaming for the camera. She's very pretty. I couldn't help wondering what my own reaction would have been in her place, after a hard evening's work... Probably more like Ricky Gervais, who tells his fans to **** off out of his way! They seem to love him for it though...
